Are the procedures painful?

For any procedure that we offer we use ample local anaesthetic to freeze any sensitive areas. Therefore you should not have any pain during the procedure. Typically, patients will feel some sensitivity 2-3 days after treatment, but this usually alleviated with pain medication that we will prescribe for you.

What will happen if I decide to postpone my treatment?

We do not recommend any treatment unless we feel it is crucial to your oral and overall health. It’s also difficult to predict the exact consequences of postponing any course of treatment. Ideally, you should follow the guidance provided by Dr. Bouclin to ensure your overall health.

How much will my treatment cost?

We follow the Ontario Dental Association’s Suggested Fee Guide for Certified Periodontists. This guide is updated on an annual basis. During your first visit, we will discuss the probable number of visits, their length and the fees involved so you’re fully aware of the exact cost any and all procedures and services. It is our policy that your care is paid for at the time of treatment.

Because of the unique nature of our practice and the specialized kind of cases we treat, it is not possible for us to accept insurance in lieu of payment. We will, however, provide you with all the information required by your insurance carrier so that you may obtain any reimbursements due to you.

Will my insurance cover my treatment?

Your dental insurance plan is a contract set up by your employer and your insurance company. There are more than 30,000 dental plan contracts in Ontario alone and each one is a little different from next. We strongly recommend looking into the details of your insurance providers dental coverage before you visit our clinic.

In accordance with the Regulated Health Professions Act and applicable regulations, we will give you information on available treatment options appropriate to address your dental care needs, regardless of the nature and extent of your dental plan coverage. In addition, we will assist you by supplying information required to enable you to receive benefits to which you may be entitled under your plan; including claim and pre-treatment forms.

In some cases with your written authorization, we will be able to transmit this information electronically, to speed up the process of assessment by your insurance carrier. Sometimes additional information is required by insurance providers, including x-rays and detail patient records may be requested by your plan administrator to ensure that treatment is covered by your plan.

Do I have to take time off after my surgery?

We assess this on a patient by patient basis. However for most procedures that we perform we recommend that you take the day of surgery off and the following day as well.

What medication is used for sedation?

With oral conscious sedation, medication is administered by taking a pill in our dental office 30 minutes before the treatment. The medication used is Halcion© (Triazolam) for adults and Versed© (Medazolam) for children in a liquid form. Following your procedure, you must have a responsible adult to drive you home and must not operate a motor vehicle for 24 hours following treatment. For more information visit our sedation page.

I am really nervous about having dental treatment. Is there anything I can take to help me relax?

Dr. Bouclin has been trained and certified in oral and intravenous sedation techniques by the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta. Can I cancel my appointment?

To be fair to our staff and other patients, we require 48 hours notice to cancel any appointment and avoid being charged for the visit.
